Halo 3A GameStop insider claims that he received word via a company e-mail that Halo 3 won’t be coming in 2006.

In fact, here’s exactly what the reported e-mail says:
“Microsoft has stated that Halo 3 WILL NOT be released in 2006.”

Personally I don’t believe it. We all know that if Microsoft can get Halo 3 out the door in 2006, they will. But even if the game won’t make it out this year, why would Microsoft already be telling Gamestop? Telling Gamestop to forget about Halo 3 in ‘06 would kill hype for Halo 3, along with the 360, and probably lead more people to begin pre-ordering PS3s, and not purchase 360s, since they won’t be planning on needing a new Xbox for Halo 3 this year.

What’s with these Gamestop employees and rumors?

Half LifeYeah, we had a hard time believing it at first, but someone beat the original Half Life in 45 minutes. The clip is up on Google Video and really has to be seen. From what we can tell, whoever got through the game in the incredibly short amount of time did so legitimately without cheating. Watching the video almost made me want to boot up Half Life and see how quickly I could run through it - but then I realized that I probably wouldn’t stand a chance and that I bluntly don’t have the skills that this guy has, whoever he is. Hey, maybe he works at Valve?

Call Of Duty 2: Xbox 360If you’ve played Call Of Duty 2 (Xbox 360) on Xbox Live then you know that the experience is less than stellar as a result of the lack of options. Some gamers decided to do something other than just complain - actually, maybe it’s not much more than complaining at this point, but at least it’s something in writing and directed at the people that can do something about it. Thanks to the ease of making online petitions there is now a petition online that needs your signature and your help promoting. The petition calls for the following additions:

  1. 16 player support
  2. Ability to create custom games
  3. Host is chosen by person who has best upload speed
  4. Admin options such as kicking a player out of the game
  5. Options such as map vote, vote kick player, etc…

CondemnedFinally, after a drought of about a week, more new content has been added to the Xbox Live Marketplace. First, is a demo of the Sega thriller Condemned. We have been having a great time playing the retail version of the game, and if you haven’t played it yet, grab the demo quickly. There is also a new Outpost Kaloki X challenge that looks to be free of charge, centered on creating a fireworks station. Probably capitalizing on the New Year season, we like this one. Outpost Kaloki X is like the old-school lemonade stand game on steroids.

Unreal Tournament 2007

Yep, that’s right - according to the new issue of PlayStation Magazine, Unreal Tournament 2007 is scheduled to be a PS3 launch title. Sure, it may not be huge news (and the game certainly won’t be an exclusive) but it’s still better than no news right?

Call of Duty 2 Cheat CodeRun into that nasty COD2 bug and lose your precious save data? Well it looks like we have a temporary fix for you. Consumers have been complaining to Activision lately about the number one 360 launch seller randomly locking up and deleting the game’s save data. As a result, Activision has come forward with the aforementioned temporary fix. In short, the fix won’t completely prevent you from losing data but rather, it will cure your problem should you have lost your data. If you want the code, you will find it after the jump.

Call of Duty 2 BugDoug Perry, IGN Xbox 360’s Editor in Chief, created a forum post on the IGN Boards detailing a bug in the Xbox 360 version of COD2. Apparently the glitch involves COD2 locking up randomly followed by deletion of your saved progress. Different forum members had similar experiences and expressed frustration with having lost their saves after pouring so much time into the game. As of right now, Doug’s waiting to hear back on the issue from Activision. In the meantime he offered a short-term solution that seems to fix the problem. The fix follows:

To maintain your saves, you have to log into your gamer ID before booting up the game. If you log onto the system through the front end of the game, your file will be written over.

Once again, that’s just a short-term fix and hopefully we’ll hear details of a permanent solution (hopefully a patch) in the near future.

Perfect Dark ZeroOver at the TeamXbox Forums, someone put together a tutorial on how to improve the Perfect Dark Zero play experience for those who just can’t get away from playing the game like Halo 2:

I’ve seen that I wasn’t one having problems with aiming in PDZ, theres been at least 2-3 threads a day popping up about the aiming system, with even more negative responses in it, some people even say they hate the game because of it. Most people adjust the sensitivity and give up when they still can’t aim, I’ve experimented and experimented and found settings that make the game much easier to play, and when it’s easier, of course it’s more fun.

If you set your profile up like this, you’ll notice you get way more headshot kills, and kills period.

Profile Options > Controls

Basics:

* Control Style: Standard

* Auto Aim Style: On or Off, doesn’t make much of a difference, in this game if the small crosshair is over an opponent, the shot is going to hit.

* Sensitivity: 75-100 seem to be the best.

* Invert Y: Up to you.

The most important part:

* X/Y Sensitivity: Off - Most console FPS have Y Slower than X as default, but in PDZ they decided to make it so the X and Y axis are the same speed, it may sound silly, but this makes a HUGE difference when changed.

* Y Sensitivity: 45-60 - The Higher your X is, adjust it appropriatly with the Y. This is where you’ll be getting more headshots.

* Fast Look: OFF - Fast Look is a stupid feature. Basically when you push your analog stick all the way in ANY direction, it will spin you around in less than a second, making precise aiming almost impossible.

Optional:

Options > Game Setup

* Camera Bob: Off, Camera Bob is annoying to me, but it won’t really affect your aiming too much.

After I changed these options, this game is almost as fluid as Halo now, the only thing I can’t fix is the Zoom Sensitivity.

Xbox 360 Backwards CompatibilitySo, we were feeling nostalgic last night and decided to play a little Halo 2 on the Xbox 360. Earlier in the day, there had been an update to the backwards compatibility list, and the Xbox 360 prompted us to download it before continuing with the gaming session. After the update was applied, we fired up Halo 2, only to find that it had been “broken.” How so? We have a 46” widescreen HDTV in our lab, and Halo 2 has always played in its widescreen mode. This time, it was in a 4x3 box, squeezed so that everything was really skinny. I made sure the aspect ratio of the TV hadn’t been changed, but when I changed it to 4x3, it was even thinner. So basically, the latest update has rendered playing Halo 2 in widescreen 720p non-existent. Luckily, it looks like the right people are aware of the problem, and a fix should be released later today.
